Tidy mounds of purple flowers characterize Aromatic Aster

Botanical Name: Agastache foeniculum
Plant Family: Aster (Asteraceae)

Description: Aromatic aster produces masses of purple flowers in the fall on mounded plants growing 1-2' tall and wide.  Typically the longest lasting blooms in our pollinator garden, the plant is electric with bees and other pollinators late into the season.

Growing Conditions: Undemanding, grows in rocky, sandy, and dry soil.  Prefers full sun.

Bloom Time: Late, Aug - Sep
Bloom Color: Purple

Benefit to pollinators/wildlife: All asters are an important late season nectar source.

Native Status: US native, PA native

Location in habitat: Pollinator Demonstration Garden
