Sweet alyssum

Botanical Name:  Lobularia Maritima
Plant Family: Mustard/Brassica family (Brassicaceae)

Description:   An annual that blooms early and holds its blooms throughout the growing season.  Features a sweet fragrance that attracts many butterflies, bees, (and humans too!)  Low grown forming small dense clumps, but not aggressive.

Growing Conditions: Easily grown from seed in average, moist, or well draining soils. Full sun.


Bloom Time: April - Jun
Bloom Color: White

Benefit to pollinators/wildlife: Host for cabbage white, attracts a variety of native bees and butterflies.  Beneficial early nectar source.

Native Status: Not a US native, though non-invasive
