Purple coneflower

Botanical Name:  Echinacea purpurea
Plant Family: Aster family (Asteraceae)

Description:   A popular perennial with purple petals around a domed spiny center.  Commonly found in open woods and prairies.  A highly attractive nectar source frequently visited by butterflies.  A good choice for mid-season blooms.

Growing Conditions: Dry to well drained soil in full sun to part shade. 


Bloom Time: Jun - Aug
Bloom Color: Purple

Benefit to pollinators/wildlife: Attracts a wide variety of pollinators including birds, butterflies, and bees.

Native Status: Widely distributed across US
