prairie Coreopsis

Botanical Name:  Coreopsis palmata
Plant Family: Aster family (Asteraceae)

Description:   Thriving in poor, sandy, or dry soils, prairie coreopsis (also known as stiff tickseed) features bright yellow flowers over a long bloom period (May - July) and a low growth habit (1 to 2 ft).

Growing Conditions: Tolerates poor soil, dry and rocky sites. Commonly found in prairies, thickets, and woodland edges.  Full sun or part shade.

Bloom Time: May - Jul
Bloom Color: Yellow

Benefit to pollinators/wildlife: Attractive to native bees and other pollinators.

Native Status: Native to midwest U.S.

Location in habitat: Pollinator Demonstration Garden
