Parker Dam Butterfly Habitat
This satellite garden was established in May 2013. It was an Eagle Scout service project by Casen Zitzelberger, who earned his Eagle Scout standing by developing the garden. Casen expanded his interests in butterflies and nature through his work with this garden.
The site had already been designated as a garden at the Parker Dam State Park but had been neglected. The garden is located near the baseball field along the road leading from the park office. It is a kidney-shaped plot, approximately 25’ x 10’, with a split rail fence around it. The garden features plants that together create Monarch habitat. Toads, fritillary butterflies, and swallowtail butterflies have visited the garden, too.
A second garden at Parker Dam, a Master Gardener pollinator demonstration garden, provides additional habitat.
