Botanical Name: Verbena hastata
Plant Family: Verbena (Verbenaceae)

Description: A 3-5 ft. perennial with numerous blue-purple flowers on multiple spikes that open from bottom to top.Showy, pencil-like spikes appear on the top of the square, grooved stem.

Growing Conditions: Can grow in full sun to shade in moist, wet soils. 

Bloom Time: June through September
Bloom Color: Blue to purple

Benefit to pollinators/wildlife: Attracts native bees.   Larval host and nectar source for the Common Buckeye butterfly.

Native Status: Native to PA.

Location in habitat: Pollinator Demonstration Garden
