Botanical Name: Rudbeckia hirta
Plant Family: Aster (Asteraceae)

Description: A 1-2 ft. annual to short-lived perennial with daisy-like 2-3 inch bright yellow cone flowers with dark centers. The leaves and stems have rough hairs giving it a rough texture.  

Growing Conditions: From full sun to full shade. Highly drought tolerance, can tolerate moist to dry soils.

Bloom Time: June through October
Bloom Color: Yellow with dark centers

Benefit to pollinators/wildlife: Nectar source for bees, butterflies and other insects.  Birds eat the seeds.

Native Status: Native to PA

Location in habitat: Pollinator Demonstration Garden
